When you come across a submission in your inbox and see that the band’s influences range from Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals’, Queens of the Stone Age’s debut and Thee Oh Sees’ ‘Mutilator’ you know you’re gonna be in for a good time. Queen Giza is a band based in Brooklyn and Charleston in the US of A and this is their debut album Machine Master Demon Dream. The record is described by the band as a “something of a two act rock opera” and the plot (in a “sentence”, the band says) is (and I quote):
“An old man builds a humanoid in his younger image, implanting his memories; the robot discovers what he is, hunts down and kills creator with some difficulties (Machine Master Side), and then the creator has a postmortem dream/nightmare focused on losing his soul to the robot/demons/devil (Demon Dream Side). The 2nd side is formatted around the stages of sleep/dreaming and the bodily/brain functions, and all songs flow into each other. “
Simply put, it’s badass.

One of the biggest ways to get me to respond to a submission in the email inbox (which has since reached over +100 unread emails a day now, great) is if the artist/PR person sends me a personalised email. Just a simple hello and some nice words goes a long way in making my job a lot more enjoyable, and when most of the time I receive simple copy-and-pasted emails it certainly helps them stand out when there’s a bit of effort involved.
Daisy Victoria is somebody who did exactly that. Her email showed me how “mysterious and dark” she is and she also promised a “dick pic to follow”, which is fantastic. Thank you Daisy. Anyway, this this is her new single Animal Lover. I too am an animal lover, so I think I am in love with this lady.

It’s been a little while since I’ve been to the Dentist. I used to go every 6 months thanks to Mummy’s persistence and hated it, though nowadays I have a kink for people sticking Latex gloves in my unwilling mouth. So it’s swings and roundabouts. Anyway, Shark Dentist are an emerging act from North London and this is their second single called ‘Florentine (Make Me Smile)’ and it’s pretty darn good. It’s certainly good enough to put a smile on your face. Continue reading “Hot New Bands / #7 / Shark Dentist”
Y’know, there’s been some good music from us Brits this year, and this is another one. From The Cave are a five piece band from London and this is their new self-titled EP. These guys perform some kind of rock cocktail, taking influences from alternative to grunge to punk to produce something that makes me wanna drink it all up. Mmm, delicious.
The EP kicks things off with Night Hawk which offers a sweet Hawk sample alongside a sketchy guitar riff that’s equally moody and catchy, producing the strangest dance moves out of me. From The Cave throw down some sweet male/female vocal dynamics on top of the instrumental which really comes into full swing for the chorus which properly fills up the airwaves. It’s a very catchy listen, and definitely gets me in the mood to enjoy the rest of what’s to come. Continue reading “Self-Titled EP by From The Cave / EP Review”
