You know, the UK’s been a bit shit lately. Recently we held a vote to decide whether or not we should remain within the EU which saw Leave just scrape victory. This was a referendum coming from the minds of people who immediately said that £350 million going to the NHS – the main statement behind the push to leave – was a “mistake” the next day, and wasn’t going to happen at all. This is then followed by said people stepping down from their roles in Politics, and now we’ve ended up with a new PM and the nation’s brightest hope, Jeremy Corbyn, constantly battling against people of his own party wanting him out. Mental.

So glad to bring this back! An Interview With is a series which I would love to bring to EHS a lot more, but due to having a proper job that isn’t involved in music takes up a lot of time (and I’ve recently started a long term save as Manager of Chelmsford City in Football Manager 2016, but less said about that the better [I’m doing really well, currently 4th in the league]) so I’m unable to get out there to do my thang properly. HOWEVER, the latest interview comes from fellow Essex band The Penny Antics who I raved about not too long ago because of their solid new single ‘Guilty Pleasures’. Huge thanks to Lewis from The Penny Antics for taking the time to answer these questions, and also a big thanks to you for reading. Much love to you all.

It’s been a little while since I’ve been to the Dentist. I used to go every 6 months thanks to Mummy’s persistence and hated it, though nowadays I have a kink for people sticking Latex gloves in my unwilling mouth. So it’s swings and roundabouts. Anyway, Shark Dentist are an emerging act from North London and this is their second single called ‘Florentine (Make Me Smile)’ and it’s pretty darn good. It’s certainly good enough to put a smile on your face. Continue reading “Hot New Bands / #7 / Shark Dentist”
HOT NEW BANDS is a series in which a particular band gets bigged up by yours truly every (nearly every) Wednesday. So far I’ve raved about No Hot Ashes, NARCS, Kassassin Street and Consolers, and today for the fifth addition to the list I’m very excited to proudly introduce you to THE PENNY ANTICS. These guys are a duo from my own home county of Essex and they perform a kind of grunge/punk rock that’s sure to get your blood pumping and your head banging. Awesome.
Having performed all over the place for the past year, The Penny Antics have been steadily growing a fanbase that appreciates their energetic and fist-pumpingly good live performances. They currently have a debut album in the works and their single Guilty Pleasures has a music video too. Sounds like these guys know how to get shit done. WHERE: Clue Records
I’ve got a little bit of a bromance going on with Clue Records. These guys have been responsible for some very exciting acts that have emerged over the last year or so. One of those bands is TRASH, a four piece who’s debut EP Urban Glow sits very proudly on my wall of CDs. The band has very recently released their new single Workout, and it is very good indeed.
TRASH have decided to head towards a poppier route with this new track. Instead of keeping things very murky they have thrown a lot of accessible melody to accompany their traditional formula of performing thick walls of grunge-y guitars. This poppy introduction seeps throughout the rest of the song as simple harmonies are sprinkled on top of some delightful melodies to create a really sweet treat from TRASH. Who knows something so sweet and edible could be inside some TRASH. Workout is a really solid little pop tune and I would be totally fine if the band explored this more accessible sound for future releases. Nice work guys.
