AUGUST 8TH | LOVE
Since writing about music I have had the opportunity to discover many, many bands from various levels from all over the world. Some have been great, others have been not so great, but one in particular has always stuck out in my mind as being something…unique. Elliott Kozel, under the name Tickle Torture, produced arguably the strangest, danciest EP around with ‘Spectrophobia’. It’s an EP that went from sampling dangerous sounding coughs to the sweet, groovy sounds of ‘Would I Love You’ and opened my mind to the world of a genre I could only describe as BDSM-Funk.

The Masses are a band based in Leeds and this is their newest single Better You Know. These guys have been committing solidly to a “12 Singles in 12 Months” project which sees the band release a track on the first of each month, culminating in a full length album in 2017. It’s certainly an impressive method to build up hype for your record, especially if the band sticks to it. The most I’ve committed to something is watching an entire season of Breaking Bad in one night.

The Academic are an Irish four-piece and this is their new single Mixtape 2003. I was 10 years old in 2003; unwillingly about to leave primary school and head into the scary world of secondary school which meant puberty, liking girls and puberty again came into full swing. My mixtape back then would have involved a lot of boybands my sisters liked, and possibly some Guns N Roses for good measure.

Saint Agnes is a four piece from London and this is their latest track Sister Electric. I was turned on to these guys back in 2014 courtesy of their excellent track ‘A Beautiful Day For Murder’ with it’s ominous roundhouse kick of blues rock blowing my mind, so I’m very excited to hear this new track. I was also pleased to see that they too realise that weather’s very important when it comes to murderin’.

One of the biggest ways to get me to respond to a submission in the email inbox (which has since reached over +100 unread emails a day now, great) is if the artist/PR person sends me a personalised email. Just a simple hello and some nice words goes a long way in making my job a lot more enjoyable, and when most of the time I receive simple copy-and-pasted emails it certainly helps them stand out when there’s a bit of effort involved.
Daisy Victoria is somebody who did exactly that. Her email showed me how “mysterious and dark” she is and she also promised a “dick pic to follow”, which is fantastic. Thank you Daisy. Anyway, this this is her new single Animal Lover. I too am an animal lover, so I think I am in love with this lady.

You know, I always pride myself on keeping up to date with music. Keeping this site fresh with constant deliveries of the ripest fruit is something I strive to achieve each week, so you have no idea how pleased I am to bring something to you that was released over a month ago. I do apologise, but luckily this little fruit has remained as juicy and as ripe as the day it was born. Trudy and the Romance reside in Liverpool and this is their latest track Wild.

I love a bit of good old fashioned funk. There’s something about music that aims to attack the hips that sits so right with me, and this is one of those tunes. Attic Empire is a six piece indie funk band from LA and this is their new single Got Me Feelin’.
This track has everything you could want to satisfy a craving for some feel good vibes. A walking bassline struts its way through the wah-wah heavy guitar riffs, the strong beat of the drums and the vocals caps things off by flowing perfectly against all this swinging music. Attic Empire throws all sorts of horns on top too, allowing them to dominate the airwaves with a strong gusto that fills the atmosphere with even more summery goodness.
Got Me Feelin’ is a superb song. Attic Empire have produced something that is full of bright, vibrant colours and comes packed with so many different levels of engaging riffs and sections that it’s quite hard not to fall in love with it. It’s great, I love it.
