Take Off by Alissia | Track Review

WHEN: 18.11.2015

Buckle up folks, things are about to get funky. Take Off is the new single from singer-songwriter Alissia and goodness me, I think I’m in love. Alissia is a Geneva-born resident of New York and after being classically trained decided to pick up the bass guitar and slap bass her way into my heart. Backed by the superbly named The Funketeers, this lady might be about to deliver an essential modern funk record in the new year.

Lead by the smoothest of bass lines, Take Off is an immediate cuddle on the eardrums and the hips. Complete with guitars, synths and drums this song has all the tools necessary to make your journey into Funkland a real smooth one. The instrumental has got this shit on lock as it throws down some sections and breakdowns that sound just as timeless as the 70’s, and the vocals combined together sounds like something Rick James could have easily created too.

Take Off is a wonderful, excellent sound that throws funk right into the modern day. It’s catchy beyond belief, and while it does sound just as good as the likes of Sly & The Family Stone, Chic and Kool and the Gang it also does a good job of carving out a little section of niche for Alissia to announce her own sound too. Awesome track. Stream it below, and for more music reviews, free downloads and marry me Alissia check out Exploding Head Syndrome on Facebook and Twitter.
