SHOWCASE is a series here on Exploding Head Syndrome in which we sporadically throw all of our spotlight onto certain artists because we like them very much. We believe the artists we showcase in this series are going to deliver something special and basically just want to get in there first before a bandwagon gets built. So essentially, it’s a disguised “I liked them before they were big” series. So far we have brought light to a band who look to be very much backed by their label in Vows, and our very good friend who definitely deserves all the attention in the world Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt.
Our third addition to the Showcase series is M+A. M+A are an Italian duo and they are responsible for creating what are currently our favourite tracks of the year in Bouncy, Habes and the unbelievably catchy summery smash hit Do The Shout. They have released one album so far in their short career but they have received a ton of buzz around their upcoming EP Anyway Milkyway, which is out on the 20th of April. Their sound is something that emphasises all of the joy of a bright, sunny day and through the mediums of percussion, synths and a generally upbeat vocal delivery they create material that is infectious, danceable and oh so good. SO good.
The aforementioned tracks have proved that these guys know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to crafting music for the masses, but what makes them stand out is how they don’t take ideas from what’s currently the flavour of the month in the charts. They focus on developing and building their own identity and their music succeeds purely from how well layered it is.
I personally have been dying to hear M+A’s Anyway Milkyway for months ever since hearing Do The Shout. This track in particular encapsulates everything great about being alive, from being out in the sunshine, to seeing pretty girls smiling and most importantly, being able to skank successfully despite your socially awkward exterior. It is definitely one of my most anticipated releases of the year, and with three tracks confirming that I should remain intensely hyped it should definitely be one of the biggest and best releases too. Stream all three tracks below, get on the bandwagon, and look out for Anyway Milkyway on April 20th via i-D.
