Hey it’s another episode of Showcase! The new series we introduced for 2015 which was to…showcase…a certain number of artists and bands who have touched our hearts and got our hips swinging over the last year or so. Our debutant artist was Vows, a band that believes that 2015 will be a very exciting year for them, and I hope it is because otherwise that would make Showcase look bad, and also because they deserve it. Those guys are rad.
So to make sure that Showcase doesn’t become a failure we have decided to make the second addition to its shiny list of shiny people none other than Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt. This singer songwriter has been in contact with me personally ever since I started writing music and pretending like my opinion matters, and that’s a kind of commitment I really cherish, because my writing back then was terrible. I have at least very much enjoyed every single release this guy has put out over the years, and right now he’s in a bit of a rut as am I, so it seems like now is the best time to really throw the spotlight onto him.
Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt’s sound is something that contains a whole lot of casualness to it, from the warm acoustic chords to the gravelly tone inside his voice, but it is packed with all kinds of wonderful lyricism about love and lost and general laziness about life which sits nicely atop a really solid and lovely set of hooks, harmonies and melodies. Primarily acoustic-based, Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt’s material is something that can be enjoyed at all times, is the perfect accompaniment to summer, and adds a lot of sunshine to the winter months too, and I can’t praise it any harder.
His first contribution to 2015 is new album Better Days, which definitely is boosted context-wise by his current situation, and it is yet another wonderful piece to the puzzle. Over the years as lame as it sounds but I feel like I’ve witnessed Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt improve hugely in his songwriting, and one thing that is definitely true is that this guy knows how to write a good freakin’ song or two. All ten of the tracks on this track feature a hook that will stick in your head for ages, and if that song has a guitar solo in it you know you’re gonna be hooked again. There’s passion all over the place, and I’m so glad to be hit by it.
Better Days is a wonderful little record and further proves that Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt thoroughly deserves all the attention in the world. He is currently in need of a label to help distribute his music so if you’re a record label that needs a shining spark then THIS IS THE GUY FOR YOU. Even if you’re thinking about starting a record label THIS IS THE GUY FOR YOU to make it the most successful label in the entirety of the world.
Stream Better Days below, and please do go enjoy one of the strongest discographies I’ve personally discovered since enveloping myself in the music world. Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt very much warrants a place in SHOWCASE, and also your heart. No homo.
