When: Freakin’ July
Where: Already Dead Tapes And Records
Usually we tuck ourselves in bed over the weekends but sometimes exceptions are the best thing in the world. Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt is a singer-songwriter from overseas and he has been inside our little eardrums ever since Elusive Little Comments (the website I made prior to having a minor meltdown and starting Exploding Head Syndrome) and he creates music that talks about all things love, lust, loss, life, and anything else beginning with L underneath this tempo and acoustic guitar goodness that relaxes you enough to enjoy the niceness.
Smile For Me is HIAHC’s newest tape which came out way back in July but as already mentioned this guy’s been buzzing sweet acoustic tunes for years so we don’t care about dates. Unless it’s dates with the person who makes you happiest, and they’re really pretty, and that’s exactly the kind of buzz you get when you listen to this tape. All twelve tracks are simply acoustic guitar and vocals, with cameos from additional instruments here and there, but there’s a certain quality with HIAHC that makes his voice, his melodies and harmonies, and songwriting shine amongst the obscurity. It’s relatable to the point where it’s as if this tape was written for you, as everybody has experienced the lyrics spoken on tracks like Never Sleep, Come On (Girl Stay) and Youthful and Dumb, and even without the accessibility these are still very good songs. It’s great.
I’ve fallen in love with Smile For Me. It makes me want to spend all my time with the best person around and spend it doing nothing but just being. Taking in all the world and all the happiness and joy that surrounds the person I’m talking to. Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt never fails to deliver on his releases, and Smile For Me could be his best effort yet. Stream it below, and do yourself a favour and purchase it too.
