Ventenner – Wave | Track Review

This is pretty sick. Wave is the new single from Ventenner, a band which scours the darkest areas of Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and Smashing Pumpkins and mashes them together to create a sound that is abrasive, distorted and oh so dark. This is the first track to be dropped in anticipation for their new album Distorture, and it is certainly a doozy.
With electronic drumbeats, creeping basslines and gritty guitars Wave is a track that sounds like it could have come from the mind of Trent Reznor. There’s a hint of groove embedded deep within the eery atmosphere, but Ventenner take full advantage of their ability to make noise by turning everything beyond eleven at the peaks of the song. An explosive beginning immediately followed up with silence before the band revert back into the swing of things makes Wave sound just as unstable as Ventenner want it to be. It’s awesome.
Wave is a great song that emits intensity and the added sprinkles of piano helps build up the tense atmosphere Ventenner successfully convey over the course of five minutes.
