Oxford Style – Salo | Track Review

Oxford Style is a project formed by singer-songwriter Paul Nicholson after he could no longer handle what’s been described as his loathing for “himself and humanity”. I know exactly how you feel Paul. I’ve been fighting with myself to go and get a haircut for nearly a week now but I haven’t been able to bring myself to finally committing to it, and also I work in the world of retail. I know exactly how you feel.
Salois the debut single to come from this project and self-loathing collaborators and it is pretty darn tasty. Paul Nicholson’s vocals kick off the track with a kickdrum before Oxford Style bring in some punchy guitar and bass riffs which knock you into a pit of sonic lava like they were a nicer version of the riffs heard in Swans’ Oxygen. The punches of noise set up for an explosion of noise made up of sweet riffs composed of many layers of guitars, bass and synths and it’s like all of the discography of The Young Ones falling out at once. It’s awesome.
This is one solid introduction and one hell of a song from Oxford Style. If they continue to deliver material that’s as buttkicking and catchy as Salothen I think I might have a new favourite artist. Salo is an awesome song. Check out the video below, and for more music reviews, free downloads and a collection of sexy bath pictures check out Exploding Head Syndrome on Facebook and Twitter.
