Villiers – The Dancer | Track Review

Villiers is a trio from the North West and this is their new single The Dancer. This trio perform a kind of alt-rock that has gained them quite a lot of excited fans and press over the last year or so, and as they finally christian 2014 with their music, the people could be about to get a whole lot crazier.
The Dancer is a track that ultilises electronic synths and tribal drum beats to create something that sounds rigid with darkness but has the ability to get the listener moving. The dark intro sounds like something Gary Numan could have produced though Villiers do a great job of converting it into a pretty funky sound. It’s something The Cure could perform had Robert Smith over done it on the hairspray a little. The echo-y vocals slip into the instrumental perfectly and this nostalgic track suddenly has all the qualities of the 80’s supporting it. It’s a very enjoyable listen and Villiers do a great job of making something sound so left field and yet sound right in the middle of it. It’s undeniably catchy, and I’ve got the fever.
